I’m really waiting for the first sunny Swiss weekend like the Thursday in this picture, but the down days, rain and thunderstorms haven’t kept me away from the closest mountains during the few free days. At some point, I’m definitely taking the train or bus to further and more legendary destinations though, but until now the backyards of Interlaken have been enough. Like these:
Harder Kulm offers some easy to reach majestic views to Jungfrau & gang (unfortunately I haven’t reached the top in the perfect weather yet), a restaurant and Harder Railway (for the ones not into earning their beer with the uphill). And then there’s the “cocktail hike”, as I call it, from Interlaken West to Thunersee (lake Thun), which offers i.e. a possibility for a swim, castle ruins, a restaurant and a nice flat track for morning and evening runs. And talking of the castle ruins, the role plays I’ve seen happening there has made me think what kind of role play is the hipster hiking trend/tribe. Just think about it, all the Norrøna, Mammut, Fjällräven and GoPro, drones, #vanlife, Specialized bikes, Bialetti moka express in the woods etc. Hah.
In addition to hiking, Interlaken offers nice everyday adventures for rock climbing and biking as well. For these, there are the “everyday” mountains and trails and cracks around Unterseen, Wilderswill and Abendberg, and good bike tours to Lauterbrunnen, or Grindelwald or to and around the lakes.
Some are easier than the others, but based on my own experience the views are always worth the struggle. And the pics, even with the hipster label.
